high standards

Last weekend we had brunch at the oh-so-trendy The Standard Grill, the lovely restaurant housed on the ground floor of one of the Meatpacking District's most widely acclaimed hotels, The Standard Hotel. A lovely experience overall. The front room, decked out in white paint, subway tiles and winter greenery, has beautiful morning sunlight, and with the light bouncing off the snow outside, it was almost glowing. The back of the restaurant is a leather-clad, sophisticated dining room with a penny-tiled floor - the perfect spot, it seemed, for a cozy yet high-class steak or duck dinner. Overall, the whole place had that feeling - sophisticated and laid back all at the same time.
